Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell

June 7, 2009

There is a possibility President Obama will repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Many will quote polls and a more enlightened America as proof we should change a policy which works.

Here is the reality of it all. I realize the accusation of bigot and homophobe will be charged-so be it. There is no reason or demonstrated need to allow homosexuals in the military.

First off, the Military excludes almost one half of all eleigible military men and women. Eyesight, allergies, height, weight, previous injuries, intelligence and legal troubles.

Second, the nature of hoomosexuality is pretty simple-sex within the same sex and the nature of the military is pretty simple small unit order and discipline. That need for order and discipline will not be enhanced by allowing homosexuals in the miitary.

Third, homosexuals in the military is not the same as women or blacks in the military. Identity is not the same as personal activity.

Keep Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

As someone who is gay and did serve in the military, I’d like you know from my point of view being open and honest is a good thing in our military.

It really is not about the sex part that people keep bringing up, instead it is about being able to honest and maintain integrity. Do you know what it is like to lie about who you are? It is very challenging and goes against what the military is fighting for.

The gay servicemembers like Choi and Fehrenbach are not asking to have sex out in the open they are asking to be themselves in the open which means nothing more than what they are doing currently, but if someone ask about their personal relational status, which servicemembers do ask each other, then they should be able to say, I am dating tom, bob or whoever the gentlemen is he is currently dating. Or what did you do last night? I went to a movie with my boyfriend. What harm is there in that?

While others try to focus on sex, let’s get our minds out of the gutter for a moment and think about the morale of our servicemembers. We are not asking to repeal DADT do we can attack every straight person we see, we are asking to be ourselves and not hide.

Is that so terrifying? We want to serve our country, we want the benefits that comes with military service, we want to have the ability to be trained in all the great ways the military provides.

There have been several documented cases where our men and women have served open and honest, let’s let it continue.

Agreed , but the minute your sexual interests and desires come out you diminish the effectiveness of small unit order and discipline which trumps any personal desires.
