Say No to No Fly Zone

March 8, 2011

The talk of the town is to institute a no fly zone in Libya as if it would be a low risk way to achieve regime change. Doubtful.

The true superiority is not in the air but on the ground. The rebel forces are not as well trained or have small unit leadership. The regime forces do.

SEAD which is suppression of enemy air defense is not a one step process. It requires active and passive electronic warfare plus air to air and air to ground intervention. At some point civilians will be hurt during the process.

It might be in the national interest of some European countries to intervene but not the best interests of the United States.
