Your Finances or the Overall Economy

February 22, 2011

Which comes first? The overall economic picture or your personal financial standing.

In late February  2011,  24% of American adults thought their personal finances were getting better. Same week, 31% believed that the U.S. economy was getting better.

Views of the overall economy since then have gotten much better than views of personal finances.

So, it seems the overall economy picture does not automatically drive the view point of individual finances.

Americans think their finances are getting better, but ratings of their present financial condition is unchanged. When Obama became president, 35% rated their own finances as good or excellent. Today, that figure is 33%.
