Could Egypt Go Islamist?

January 4, 2011

There have been christian church bombings in Egypt, a country long bent on stopping Islamic activism. These actions are not against the state but against another religion.

Egypt years ago was and is head of the Pan Arab movement in the Middle East and while it chose not to be the center of the Pan Islam movement there have been rumblings for a long time by groups such as the Muslim brotherhood.

During a period of transition, this country of  80 million looks to a new President and maybe a new reality. Mubarak is dying and his son may or may not be the heir apparent.

Whomever is President will realize an Islamic Egypt will rile the Middle East especially Turkey and Iran. Can anyone control such a change?
