The Tax Deal Reveals the Truth
Of all the powers conferred upon the government that of taxation is most liable to abuse. Supreme Court.
The tax deal has both sides yakking at each other but they are both guilty of propping up a failed model, our current tax system.
Why? For a tax system to work it must be simple, fair, easy to understand and easy to enforce. Our system is none of the above.
There are 4 million words in the tax code. NTA 2008 report
IRS help assistance centers provide the wrong answer over 70% of the time. IG report 2001.
Businesses and individuals spend 7.6 billion hours a year meeting the tax code requirements. NTA 2008.
In 2009 40 million Americans faced some sort of IRS action. IRS 2009.
In 2009 $2.3 trillion was paid to the IRS and society incurred a cost of $1.4 trillion which includes all the audits, letters, actions and personnel.
Since 2001 there have been over 3,000 changes to the Tax Code. NTA report 2008.
So, yes we can demonize the tax deal either way but the tax system is the problem.
