Utah’s Bob Bennett is Barometer for Mike Castle

May 9, 2010

What do Utah’s Sen. Bob Bennett (R-UT) and Delaware’s Mike Castle have in common?

They were the elected in the class of 1992, and WILL both lose in the rising conservative movement sweeping the nation.  Well actually, we are halfway there.  Yesterday Bob Bennett lose his re-election bid at the Utah GOP convention.  One down, one to go.

And Mike Castle is way more liberal than Bob Bennett.  This does NOT bode well for Mr.  Castle.  Mike Castle’s lifetime voting record is 52% conservative compared to Bob Bennett’s 83%.  Surely, the Delaware GOP can oust a liberal.

There is really a head of steam up for a significant shift to the right and a clear out of all those middle of the road Republicans those who might be described in British terms as one-nation Tory’s.

Bob Bennett was probably due for a shift – he wasnt exactly young! He was also one of an old oligarchical family with a father also a Senator of the same state and family connections to the Udall of Arizona, Utah, and Oregon (all at Senator level too at one time or another). If you think this is odd or indeed just plain wrong check my post at
