Planting the Seeds of Withdrawal

October 7, 2009

U.S. SECRETARY OF DEFENSE ROBERT GATES asked anyone advising President Barack Obama on Afghanistan to do so “candidly but privately.” Gen.  McChrystal, the U.S. commander in Afghanistan especially.

Jones the NSA  declared al Qaeda  to be dead and defeated. He  said that al Qaeda elements in Afghanistan had no ability to launch attacks on the United States or its allies.

If al Qaeda in Afghanistan what is the U.S. role and mission in Afghanistan? The almost 70,000 American troops are doing what?

The President’s  advisers are laying the groundwork for a decision on the  that does not match with McChrystal’s and probably means withdrawal.
