Obama’s One Month Report Card

February 20, 2009

EXCLUSIVE Delaware Republican Report Card on the Barack Obama Presidency

This report card rates the Presidency of Barack Obama on key issues for the month of February 2009:

Economy: F

New York Stock Exchange: 9,625,28  (Market Close, November 4, 2008)

New York Stock Exchange: 9,139,27  (Market Close, November 5, 2008)

New York Stock Exchange: 7,949.17 (Market Open, January 21, 2009)

New York Stock Exchange:   7,365.67 (Market Close, February 20, 2009)

The Stock Markets are extremely jittery regarding the Obama Presidency.  The market declines started the day after Barack Obama was elected President of the United States.  On November 5, 2008, the DJIA fell almost 500points due to the uncertainty regarding Barack Obama’s economic policies.

Let’s fast forward to Inauguration Day 2009.  The DJIA closed on the first full work day in the Barack Obama Presidency at 7,949.17.  On the one month anniversary of the Obama Presidency, the market closed at 7,365.67.  This is a decline of 583.50 points, or ↓7.35%

Obama does not understand who creates jobs, and what is required to create the pro-business environment to do so. He failed to take a page from Ronald Reagan who who pioneered the largest pro-growth period in history (25 years: 1982-2007).  He has failed to advise legislative leaders (Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid) to work in a bipartisan fashion to accomplish a more sensible, and targeted spending bill.

Obama’s recent proposal to save the housing industry falls flat of common sense.  Why not have a bill that forces mortgage lenders to work with at-risk homeowners to refinance their loans?  All the lenders need to do is re-work the terms of the loan with the homeowner to a monthly payment that the homeowner can afford.  No taxpayer money is needed.
Obama also marched this country forward toward socialism with his plan to reign in executive pay.  Do we live in the USA, or the United Socialist States of America?

Homeland Security: F

Closing Gitmo is a huge mistake and will make this country less safe. Didn’t he read the report that the release former Gitmo prisoner is now working with Al Qaeda?
Also gone is our War on Terror. So much for trying to prevent another 9/11 attack.

Ethics: F

Obama’s cabinet appointments have been a complete disaster.  Geither, Dashle, and Killefer all have problems paying their taxes.  Geitner ironically was confirmed by the Senate, to head the IRS, ironically.  Dachle and Killefer were forced to withdraw their nominations, and Obama had egg on his face.
And we have a whole topic on the shenanigans with the replacement to Obama’s U.S. Senate seat.  First Illinois Governor Rod Blagovjevich was impeached over allegations he tried to sell the seat.  Appointed U.S. Senator Roland Burris (appointed by Blagojevich) admitted this week that Blagojevich asked for a $10,000 donation.  Does anyone from Chicago have any ethics?  Obama role in this will soon be revealed, by Blagojevich who will sing like a canary once his trial begins.

Leadership: F

Aside from giving campaign-style speeches during his press conferences, Obama has failed to provide any leadership.  While he did have a political victory in securing the legislative passing of the “Stimulus Bill”, the bill failed to pass the litmus test of actually providing stimulative strenght that will provide long-term economic growth.  He allowed the Pelosi-Reid Dog and Pony Show to run wild with pet liberal projects that provide will not create jobs, nor help this economy recover.

Obama has also failed to be a forceful leader by leading by example.  He is more concerned with putting on a show for his liberal supporters, than setting the tone restrain government spending.  Traveling here and there, when the government coffers are broke, and the money printing presses are run full-tilt is not leadership. Obama, you are not a good financial steward of taxpayer money.  I guess it is “Do as I say, not as I do”, especially after criticizing Corporate America on how executive can travel, or whether they can use their corporate aircraft.  I guess Obama likes his new toys.
