The True Cost of the Stimulus

February 12, 2009

“The latest of these (organized labor) giveaways came on Friday, when Mr. Obama signed an executive order encouraging all federal agencies to adopt ‘project labor agreements.’ Those agreements require government contractors to negotiate with union officials, abide by union wages and benefits, and generally adhere to collective bargaining agreements.

“Put another way, the order demands that Big Labor get exclusive rights to government contracts, which will drive up project costs, since it will exclude cheaper, non-union bidders. By the way, more than 84% of U.S. construction workers don’t belong to a union.”
Kim Strassel, Political Diary, 2/10/09

In an era of economic crisis should we be adding to the cost of government and business?  Shouldn’t the President stand for America not for one special interest?
