Bank Stress Test Results

2009 May 8
by Jason O'Neill

The bank stress tests revealed that 10 of the 19 banks require additional capital to comply with the bank test rules.

What they need (not all listed):

  • Bank of America, $33.9B in capital
  • Wells Fargo, $13.7B in capital
  • GMAC LLC, $11.5B in capital
  • Citigroup, $5.5B in capital
  • Morgan Stanley, $1.8B in capital

While the banks need capital, they are solvent.  The additional capital is needed to restore the ability to lend as they have previously.
